Nike's latest Air Force 1 design paying homage to the 2006 NBA All-Star edition
Sneakerheads and basketball fans fell into collective nostalgia this week when Nike unveiled its latest star-themed Air Force 1 design, bearing striking similarities to the legendary 2006 NBA All-Star sneaker that set the standard for special edition basketball footwear.
A Blast From The Past
The new iteration maintains much of what made the 2006 version iconic - repeating metallic star patterns across premium white leather, contrasting navy accents on the Nike Swoosh and heel tab, that signature speckled midsole that mimics a celestial sky.
However, Nike updated the design language with modern techwear influences, substituting the original leather lining with breathable mesh in key areas and replacing the thick cotton laces with waxed flat laces favored by today's style-focused collectors.
The Legacy Continues
The 2006 All-Star Air Force 1 was created for the Houston All-Star Weekend, famously sported by Lebron James during that year's event. Its rarity and connection to NBA's golden era has kept demand high among collectors, with pristine pairs regularly auctioning for $1,500+.
"This new star-covered AF1 captures the same magical feeling of viewing the galaxy beneath your feet," says sneaker historian Mark Sanchez. "They've smartly kept the essential DNA while making necessary updates for contemporary comfort."
