Nike has once again tapped into its rich sneaker archives, releasing a new Star-Studded Air Force 1 that immediately calls to mind one of the most coveted AF1 silhouettes from yesteryear - the 2006 NBA All-Star edition.
The similarities between the two designs are striking. Both feature the iconic sparkling rhinestone pattern across the upper, creating that galaxy-like aesthetic that made the original such a collector's item. However, the 2023 iteration updates the classic with modern cushioning technology while maintaining all the nostalgic appeal.

Sneaker historians will recall that the 2006 version debuted during an especially revered All-Star weekend in Houston, where the silhouette adopted metallic silver accents combined with the glittering upper - a nod to Texas's long tradition of cowboy boots and Southern glam.
"This recalls everything we loved about pre-2010 Nike collaborations - that perfect marriage of performance and irrepressible bling factor," says sneaker expert Marcus Powell.
Available now at select retailers, some Important distinctions:
- The 2023 model replaces the icy clear outsole with a semi-opaque alternative more resistant to yellowing
- Star patterns now extend fully across the tongue rather than terminating at the collar
- 2006 tags highlighted the All-Star event, while '23 branding nods to general athletic excellence
While neither version comes cheap - original 2006 pairs at auction now fetch prices over $2,000 - there's something undeniably magical about this celestial sneaker tradition that continues to inspire new generations of sneakerheads.
